Fort Lauderdale(June 16) Despite numerous challenges, the Nepalese Association of Florida (NAF) successfully conducted a highly impactful networking event, bringing together prominent community leaders, dignitaries, and partner organizations on June 11 at BCPL hall. The event was graced by the presence of Colonel Purna Prasad Dhakal from the Embassy of Nepal in Washington. Dignitaries from the US Department of State couldn’t make it to the event due to extreme weather

The program was expertly hosted by NAF’s General Secretary, Madhu Nepal, and began with a warm welcome from Dr. Niraj Shrestha, President of NAF. Dr. Shrestha provided an insightful explanation of the event’s evolving nature, emphasizing the resilience and dedication of the organizers. Colonel Purna Prasad Dhakal appreciated NAF’s efforts and encouraged attendees to reach out to the embassy for any assistance.

The event highlighted the significant activities and achievements of NAF, recognizing the invaluable contributions of past presidents who have dedicated nearly 30 years to bringing the organization to its current esteemed position. Attendees had the opportunity to network with partner organizations, fostering collaborative efforts for future initiatives.

Mr. Narayan Neupane presented the “Connect Nepal” project, which has established communication centers in Rukum and Dhading, positively impacting the lives of local residents. Past President and community leader Mr. Bimal Nepal discussed his “Adopt the Highway” project, and the various activities undertaken by NAF’s chapters in different cities across Florida were also showcased.

The networking segment of the event introduced several initiatives by NAF, including the Student Network, Business Network, Healthcare Professional Network, and the Youth Forum. These networks aim to mentor, guide, and develop leadership among young Nepalese individuals.

Leena Basnet, founder of ALL4BALL, spoke about their impactful projects in community schools, such as building sports libraries, providing training from national coaches, and constructing playgrounds, which have significantly increased student attendance and skill development.

The collaboration between NAF and the Pulmonary Hypertension Association-Nepal (PHA-Nepal) was also highlighted. This partnership focuses on health screenings, early diagnosis, and further treatment.

Dr. Bijay Kattel shared the mission of the Abhi Kattel Memorial Foundation, established in memory of his son. The foundation engages in activities such as feeding the homeless, providing scholarships, and organizing blood donation drives.

Priti Adhikary, founder of The Greater Nepali Diaspora (TGND), emphasized their impressive network and useful projects that benefit Nepal and humanity at large. During the event, Mr. Ajay Satyal was acknowledged for his extraordinary contributions as the highest blood donor in the community and beyond.
