Nepalese Association of Florida Hosts Historic Meet & Greet with Cricket Icon Paras Khadka

Wellington, Florida – April 12, 2024 – The Nepalese Association of Florida (NAF) organized an exclusive Meet & Greet event with cricket legend Paras Khadka, current Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), marking a significant moment for Nepali cricket as the team advances on the Road to the T20 World Cup 2024. Held on April 12, 2024, from 6-9 PM at the Village of Wellington Community Hall, the event brought together cricket enthusiasts and supporters from across the Nepali community. Mr. Paras Khadka delivered a compelling address, emphasizing the profound importance of this juncture for Nepal’s cricket and the nation as a whole. He highlighted how events like this not only elevate the status of sports but also contribute to the overall development of Nepali athletics. His insights resonated deeply with attendees, underscoring the collective determination to propel Nepali cricket to new heights. The evening was filled with camaraderie and purpose, as attendees engaged in fundraising activities that yielded approximately $11,000 in support of Nepal’s cricket endeavors. A captivating short video presentation chronicled the inspiring journey of Nepal’s cricket team to the World Cup, stirring emotions and galvanizing support for the cause.

Captain Paras Khadka graciously fielded questions from the audience, offering valuable insights and anecdotes from his storied career. A highlight of the event was the unveiling of the new jersey for Nepal’s Cricket Team in the USA, a momentous occasion made possible by Paras Khadka. The jersey, representing the team’s resilience and spirit, was later auctioned, with Mr. Bijay Shrestha and Mrs. Nirmala Shrestha of West Palm Beach, Florida, emerging as proud owners. The success of the event was made possible through the generous support of our sponsors. We extend our sincere appreciation to Club Homealaya, Mr. Bivek Agrawal from Miami Zeera Indian Restaurant, Palm Beach Garden, and Suman Subedi for their invaluable contributions. The auction was conducted by Mr. Dev Bhandary from West Palm Beach and the event was managed by Ms. Priti Bhandary and Mr. Binod Basnet. The highest bid was on one of the National Cricket Team jerseys which was sold for $3100.00.

During the program, NAF Vice President Binod Basnet provided insights into CAN’s history and Nepal’s cricket team’s current journey to the T20 World Cup. Niraj Shrestha, NAF, President highlighted the historic significance of the upcoming match on June 11th, expected to draw over 3000 Nepali community members from various states and countries in the Western Hemisphere. He expressed gratitude to CAN for appointing NAF as the official diaspora organization for the Florida match and highlighted NAF’s collaboration with Thamel NYC for additional event planning. Before the event, NAF President Niraj Shrestha, and Mr. Paras Khadka visited the Broward Cricket Ground, where Nepal will face Sri Lanka on June 11, 2024. NAF will continue to work closely with CAN on ticketing and the newly launched jersey.
